Basic faceups are considered a standard ‘look’ which is simple in nature and slightly different for each individual sculpt and skintone, but would essentially be the same for each doll. Alterations to the standard look would be considered a custom faceup and thus the higher price tier applies.
Cristina García (Solsikke) is our local Spanish faceup artist, based in Guadalajara, 50km outside Madrid. When not painting dolls, she works as an Arts & Crafts teacher at a high school.
“As far back as I can remember dolls have been a passion for me, but my whole world changed one day eight years ago, when BJDs crossed my path. I was fascinated, and dived into this wonderful hobby.
My very first BJD had a default factory face-paint, as I didn’t yet feel confident enough to give my first doll a face-up. But I had an urge and eventually got bitten by the face-up bug.
Soon after, dolls like Blythe, Monster High, Licca also came into my life… and I joined the fascinating world of carving, repainting and re-rooting (a million thanks to all the people who entrusted me to work on their dolls).
Please, be sure that I work with enthusiasm and care deeply about my face-ups, and I’ll do my best to fulfil your expectations. Thank you so much!!”
